Detailed Description:

The Division of Student Affairs seeks an individual with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism and a strong interest in working at a mission driven, faith-based institution. The role of the Budget Analyst is in supporting students and the USD Community responsibilities of the position are significantly tethered in the university’s contemporary Roman Catholic mission and commitment to creating an equitable, welcoming community for all.

The Business Analyst will perform data analyses and assist in interpretation of results using a variety of techniques to support business practices. The role will work closely with the Business Director of Student Affairs and Auxiliary Services to obtain and identify analytical requirements. Additionally, provide recommendations and conclusions gained from analyzing data using statistical methods and tools. The role will also research best practices, develop benchmarks, and provide dashboard metrics in a wide range of business vertical (Dining Services & hospitality Services, Housing, Bookstore, Healthcare, Recreation etc. but not limited to) to management. The Business Analyst will develop a variety of reporting tools for distribution and ensure data accuracy. The role will provide input into decisions affecting business operations and strategic initiative. May lead staff or student workers, as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generates and creates reports using software including but not limited to Prism, Workday, CS Gold, Spoton, FSS, StarRez, and Excel. 
  • Performs data analysis and assists in interpretation of results using a variety of techniques to support business practices. Work with management to obtain and identify analytical requirements. Research best practices and develop benchmarks. Create data collection methods (e.g., survey, tests etc..), and develops tools and processes to support analysis. Analyzes results, reviews data for anomalies, investigates to identify and determine cause, and corrects data inaccuracies and inconsistencies as necessary. Provides recommendations and conclusions gained from analyzing data. 
  • Provides business data trend information to support recommendation for action. Collaborates with management on matters of best practices, appropriate statistical measures, and benchmarking. Provides management with suggestions, as appropriate.
  • Utilizes statistical and quality management principles to report on and initiate operational/business practices changes.
  • Develops schedules for producing statistical analyses and graphical representation of data for business analytics. Provides ad hoc reporting and statistical analyses, as requested.
  • Performs data collection and/or entry processes. Recommends and/or utilizes methods and procedures for data acquisition, management, and quality control, as directed or as needed. Recommends and/or utilizes statistical technique for data analysis, as directed or a needed. Resolves problems, answer questions and provides information to facilitate the process. Use standards statistical analysis software, as directed. 
  • Performs database maintenance and development for data collection and reporting purposes. Designs data input or data collection screens, as needed. Enters and/or validates data entry, as needed. Ensure data errors are addressed. Provides technical support and design enhancements. 
  • Determines appropriate format for data and results presentation in both web-based and published metrics dashboards. Produces or oversees the production of graphs, tables, charts, etc.  Assemble or oversees the production and distribution of reports that effectively present and summarize data to be reviewed by leadership. 
  • Creates status reports on project plans, progress, and results activities. 
  • Provides key data and information to leadership for purposes of informing business operations and strategic initiatives. 
  • Maintains currency with data analyses techniques, standards, and related technologies.
  • Uses advanced data discovery and data mining tools through Star Rez, WinPrism, FSS/CBORD, Workday ERP, SpotOn or other systems to reveal relationships and trends in the data concerning business performance.
  • Develops and maintains a 3–5-year business planning model for multiple Auxiliary units, which will coincide and assist with the annual budgeting process.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or other related disciplines such as statistics, economics, or mathematics required
  • Two years of experience in financial planning & analysis or corporate finance required, preferably in the Hospitality Service or retail industry.

Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extremely high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and intellectual curiosity.
  • Knowledge of quality management methods (e.g., Six Sigma)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and exhibit good judgment.
  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Power Query
  • Ability to be proactive with respect to suggestions for improving all aspects of the financial monitoring and reporting processes.
Posting Salary:

$25.16 - $33.97 per hour; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
