Detailed Description:

The Parking Services Greeter staffs the two campus entrance kiosks. The primary duties are to assist with the various access and informational needs of all USD visitors, students, faculty, and staff. This consists of answering questions regarding campus events, assisting USD visitors in locating their campus host or event, issuing carpool permits, and providing directions for on and off-campus locations. This position is the first official point of contact for all campus visitors. In this capacity, the Parking Services Greeter must be able to deliver outstanding customer service during every contact they make consistently. Responsibilities include maintaining and recording all requests for information and tracking carpool permits issued daily. Other duties are to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the campus while not putting themselves at risk and to notify the Department of Public Safety if they detect an unauthorized entry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and provide service to all campus community members; assist students, staff, faculty, and guests as requested and as appropriate. Respond to requests for special assistance/directions and provide campus information to all campus community members and guests as necessary.
  • Issue carpool permits and verify they have a valid parking permit.
  • Stay informed about daily events and assist guests/visitors to their events.
  • Interacting with a high volume of visitors.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment, particularly during peak hours.
  • Ensure the entrance area and inside kiosk is clean, organized, and presentable at all times.
  • Report all suspicious or unlawful acts to the Department of Public Safety. 
  • Respond to requests to render emergency first aid at each kiosk while notifying appropriate authorities of all requests for emergency assistance.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to work all shift hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, and be available for on-call assignments and overtime as necessary. 

Background check:  Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Two years of relevant customer service experience required.  Two years of college-level education may substitute for one year of work experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.

  • Must have a friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of university departments and personnel, knowledge of campus facilities, and areas surrounding the University campus and other local points of interest.
  • Thorough knowledge of emergency preparedness procedures, including but not limited to campus closures and emergency vehicle routes.
  • Current and comprehensive understanding of the University’s parking rules and regulations.
  • Ability to verbally communicate in English in a clear, concise, and professional manner in person, by telephone, and by two-way radio.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, including tact and diplomacy to interact with diverse personalities and groups; ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective work relationships with university personnel, students, guests, vendors, and various agencies.
  • Ability to work effectively with varying levels of supervision.
  • Ability to effectively carry out event goals to enhance the university's image.
  • Demonstrate integrity, dependability, sound judgment, team building, and resourcefulness.
  • Employees shall be neat and professionally groomed at all times. Department uniforms must be clean and presentable.
  • Employees shall always conduct themselves professionally, including during potential confrontations. They must be able to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a professional stance and remain calm in emergency and/ or tense situations.

Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Computer using Windows environment, various and specialized software applications (spreadsheet, word processing, database, graphic presentations, Smarter City Solutions, Parkeon, department web-based services; university scheduling database.
  • Two-way radio, printer, ten-key calculators, copier, multi-line telephone, and related office equipment, etc.) 
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and electric and gas golf carts as a means of on-campus transportation.
Posting Salary:

$18.14 - $19.79 per hour; Medical and Retirement Benefited

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
