Detailed Description:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the oversight of the daily operations of the basketball practice center weight room and programs for varsity scholar-athletes; the development and implementation of athletic performance enhancement programs for men’s/women’s basketball and other sports as assigned and other administrative responsibilities as delegated by the Director of Performance Training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Facility Specific Responsibility:

  • This position will have oversight of scheduling, coordinating, managing, maintenance/upkeep and availability of the basketball practice center weight room and assigned teams utilizing the space
  • Assist with management, ordering, stocking/restocking of the nutrition station in the facility as needed and collaborated upon with the Head Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coach as agreed upon and budgeted for.

Scholar-Athlete development and monitoring:

  • Provide a high-level of service, including but not limited to the development of athletic performance enhancement programs as it relates to injury prevention, and performance enhancement (strength development, power development, year-around planning, recovery, sport science, etc.).
  • Organize a scientific-based periodization protocol that progressively stimulates the athlete’s development of the necessary strength and metabolic needs.
  • Stay current with knowledge of and be in compliance with NCAA catastrophic injury and death prevention recommendations, including but not limited to acclimatization methods and emergency action plans and development of strong working relationship with institution’s NCAA Athletics Healthcare Administrator.
  • Collaborate with Sports Medicine and Nutrition to determine best practices to impact the performance of student-athletes as well as return-to-play protocols.
  • Implement a screening process to evaluate injury risk from impaired or compensatory movement patterns leading to chronic overuse and muscle strains.
  • Evaluate and maintain performance records and monitor progress of assigned student-athletes.
  • Effectively motivate athletes to excel to achieve maximum potential in all areas of performance.
  • Coordinate use of technologies and services; oversee collection and analysis of data, prepare and present materials to utilize data and information to improve performance.

Administrative, Management and Facility Management Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional level of communication between sport coaches, administrators and staff.
  • Equitably and effectively hire, train, supervise and evaluate subordinate staff and student workers.
  • Assure that all activities are operated in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations.
  • Help recruit prospective athletes to the University of San Diego within NCAA rules.
  • Prepare reports and documents in support of NCAA and other agencies and organizations as required.
  • Administer and oversee the proper maintenance and care of equipment and machines.
  • Assist with planning and budgeting for the replacement of equipment as needed and select and order equipment.
  • Be versed in and follow department policies and procedures for purchasing, business operations, human resources, etc.
  • Preparation and presentation for clinics/camps as required.
  • Support and enforce weight room operating procedures and hours of operation. Enforce strength facility and assigned Team policies and rules. Maintain a journal with all disciplinary actions taken. 
  • Develop, monitor and test strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams. 
  • Conduct fitness testing, computation of results and evaluation of individual athletes.
  • Attend Administrative and Sport Staff meetings at the discretion of the Head Coach and S&C schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Performance

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Availability to work long hours, nights and weekends.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to away contests (BOTH Men’s and Women’s Basketball, equally), WCC tournament and NCAA/Post Season events, when appropriate and necessary.
  • Willingness to be on call for short-notice events.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) years of experience or equivalent in strength and conditioning of collegiate Men’s and Women’s Basketball scholar-athletes
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in the design and implementation of safe and effective sport performance programs for a variety of sports

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in kinesiology, exercise science or leadership concentration
  • Experience working within a Division I college institution
  • Experience working within a Division I Basketball and/or Football program
  • Experience working with various Sport Science Hardware and Software (Force Plates, VBT, GPS, Heart Rate, etc.)
  • Additional Strength and Conditioning related Certification(s) such as USAW, FMS, Precision/NESTA Nutrition, etc.
  • Prior experience as a Lead Performance Coach
  • Leadership experience and management skills

  • Understand the importance of cleanliness of facility and safety when dealing with blood borne pathogens and skin contact

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
  • Ability to communicate at a high level and the ability to work well with many people.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights/weekends and occasional travel.
  • Open minded and receptive towards new ideas and information
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of various ethnic, racial and socio-economic groups.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • CSCCA or CSCS accredited National Certification as required by NCAA regulations
  • CPR/AED Certification required within six weeks of employment
Posting Salary:

$6,666.67 - $7,500 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
