Department Description:

The Finance Office serves the needs of the university and its constituents.  It is supported by the Controller’s Office which oversees the accounting, cashiering, procurement, and student financial services operating units.  The Tax and Compliance Office promotes compliance to federal and state tax laws, serves as a campus resource with respect to tax issues, and oversees the university’s accounts payable and payroll activities.  The Budget and Treasury unit conducts budget planning, capital financing, endowment investment, and cash management. The Office of Risk Management oversees the university's insurance policies and loss control efforts.

Detailed Description:

The Assistant Budget Analyst provides fiscal and administrative support to the Budget and Planning leadership team, including the Associate Director and AVP. This role is responsible for ensuring the financial integrity of the University by monitoring budget-to-actual performance, developing standardized reporting formats, performing complex data analysis, and processing adjustments within the Workday Financial and Oracle EPM systems. The Assistant Budget Analyst serves as a key resource in identifying fiscal trends or discrepancies, and prepares comprehensive summaries and ad-hoc financial reports to support departmental planning and strategic decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, maintains and analyzes monthly, quarterly and annual reports to monitor university-wide budget performance; presents findings on budget trends and critical areas of concern to senior Finance leadership.
  • Complies and evaluates complex financial data while collaborating with division budget administrators to analyze trends, address deficits or surpluses, and resolve fiscal discrepancies.
  • Executes routine Oracle EPM budget maintenance, including the review of pending and prior-day budget adjustments for compliance with university policies and standards. Facilitates budget appropriations and provides technical assistance to divisional administrators.
  • Prepares Journal Entries and Payroll Accounting Adjustments as needed.
  • Performs ad hoc financial analyses and projects as assigned using Workday Financial, Oracle EPM and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
  • Adapts to evolving university financial needs by performing related professional duties and assisting with special assignments that support the strategic goals of the division.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field plus 2 years of professional experience and/or related internships; OR a high school diploma plus 4 years of related professional experience; OR an MBA plus 1 year of related experience.
  • Extremely high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and exhibit good judgment.
  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to be proactive with respect to suggestions for improving all aspects of the financial monitoring and reporting processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Financial Planning and Analysis experience preferred.
Posting Salary:

$32.00-35.00 per hour; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
