Department Description:

The computer science department at USD is part of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE), which is ranked by U.S. News in the top 15 of non-doctoral engineering schools. Our department supports an undergraduate program in computer science with approximately 100 majors, as well as an embedded software concentration in the undergraduate Integrated Engineering program. Our CS majors are highly-engaged and actively contribute to the mission of the department and the University. Our faculty is devoted to challenging and inspiring students to learn the technical skills, global perspective, social awareness and leadership ability needed to become change-making computer scientists.

Detailed Description:

The Computer Science Department at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applications for a faculty position to begin September 1, 2020. Based on the qualifications of the applicant, this position would be either a tenure-track position (Assistant or Associate level) or a contract position.

Job Requirements:

Successful candidates should have at least one of the following:

  • A doctorate in Computer Science or a closely related field at the time of employment for a tenure-track position.
  • At least 10 years of industry experience and a Bachelors in Computer Science or a closely related field for a contract position (Professor of Practice).

Preference will be given to candidates who are committed to outstanding teaching in a liberal arts setting as well as to developing and sustaining an active undergraduate-oriented research program. Additional preference will be given to candidates who are committed to advancing the university mission in issues of justice and care of our common home, who are able to establish and maintain industry ties, can contribute to senior capstone projects, are excited about undergraduate teaching, and have a commitment to working with diverse populations. Candidates from all areas of specialization will be considered, including but not limited to: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Security, Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Human-Computer Interaction, Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, and Computer Science Education. Candidates able to work across disciplinary boundaries and within a collaborative environment are especially encouraged to apply.

This report includes institutional policies concerning: campus security; procedures for reporting crime, fire, and other emergencies; emergency response and evacuation procedures; sexual misconduct and relationship violence reporting and response standards and protocols; alcohol and drug policies; and statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred within the institutions Clery reportable geography.
