Department Description:

The Architecture Program is part of the Department of Art, Architecture and Art History, housed within the College of Arts and Sciences. Our design studios emphasize critical thinking and the development of the architectural imagination, informed by an expansive curriculum in the history and theory of architecture. The program is also organically tied to the Visual Arts and Art History majors that form the department. The department fosters a very active undergraduate research program that especially engages first generation and underrepresented students.

Detailed Description:

The Department of Art, Architecture, and Art History seeks applications for a part-time instructor in the Architecture Program for the following courses for Fall 2026 (in-person modality).

ARCH 101-Introduction to Architecture Studio. M/W 2:30pm-5:20 pm

ARCH 121- Introduction to Modern Architecture.  M/W 2:30pm-3:50pm

ARCH 200- Digital Representation. F 2:30pm-5:20pm

ARCH 302- Architecture Design Vertical Studio. T/Th 9:15am-12:05 pm

ARCH 321-City and Utopia M/W 4:00pm-5:20pm

ARCH 327-Architecture & Decolonization. T 2:30pm-5:20pm

When applying, you may indicate interest in one or more of the positions listed above. Please note specific days and meeting times. Part-time instructors will not teach more than 6 units (faculty load) per semester.

This position is included in the Non-tenure Track Bargaining Unit, and the successful applicant employee, subject to the terms of the College’s Collective Bargaining will be a bargaining unit member and will be subject to the University’s Agreement with SEIU Local 721.

This is a part-time temporary, non benefit-based position with an anticipated end date of 12/31/26. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding. 
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

B.Arch with a Master’s Degree (M.Des, MS, MA or equivalent), and at least 1 year of experience teaching architectural design.

Expected markers of excellence in design and design pedagogy include national and international awards, publications, exhibitions, student work portfolios, and samples of original design studio briefs.

Preferred Qualifications:

M.Arch or other relevant terminal degree, with additional years of teaching experience beyond the minimum. Evidence of teaching effectiveness or innovation in design pedagogy.

Background check:  Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 
Posting Salary:

Compensation for this position will be paid on a bi-weekly basis at a per-unit rate of $2,581-$2,659, commensurate with qualifications.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
