Detailed Description:

The Design and Technology Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in implementing user-centered design principles to drive the utilization and active adoption of the University of San Diego Career Development Center’s career technology resources by students, alumni, employers, campus partners, and the larger Torero community. Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Communications and Assessment, they conduct user research, design user flows, and optimize the Center's website and administrative panels, ensuring an intuitive, effective and growth-oriented user experience across all platforms.

As part of a cross-functional team, the Coordinator encourages innovation and creativity to explore new design ideas and targeted engagement strategies that improve user interaction with the Center’s technology stack. They produce compelling marketing collateral and execute proactive outreach initiatives to enhance the digital experience while supporting the Center’s commitment to inclusive excellence. By integrating user feedback and platform data, they ensure that all digital materials and resources are engaging and aligned with audience needs to maximize platform utilization.

In addition, the Coordinator collaborates closely with the employer, counseling, and design teams to make technology resources accessible and beneficial to a wide range of users. Their contributions play a vital role in advancing the Center's vision of launching the lives of changemakers and its mission of empowering students and alumni in the pursuit of career paths that lead to personal and professional fulfillment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and Technology Engagement Coordination and Support

  • Coordinates student, alumni, and stakeholder engagement for the Career Center technology stack (Handshake, PeopleGrove, Big Interview, etc.) by applying user-centered design principles to strategic targeted promotional campaigns and proactive user outreach. Executes direct outreach initiatives within the Handshake, PeopleGrove platforms and other tech assets to increase active user participation, profile completions, and network activity.
  • Conducts user research to understand the needs of Career Development colleagues, ITS, students, alumni, employers, faculty, parents, and administrators and use the findings to inform design decisions.
  • Produces high-impact marketing collateral (digital assets, social media, and print) designed to drive specific user actions, platform registrations, and engagements. Designs and maintains the Career Development Center's website in Cascade, ensuring it is visually appealing, user-friendly, accessible, and responsive across various devices and browsers.
  • Supports the integration of digital tools by collaborating with career counselors, staff, and campus partners to embed resources into existing student touchpoints and workflows.
  • Monitors user behavior to identify friction points, implementing design updates to improve platform utilization.
  • Collaborates with the employer, counseling, and design teams - including the Assistant Director of Events and Marketing - to create marketing collateral for shared projects, signature programs, and career fairs.

Technology Management and Maintenance

  • Manages and maintains the career development technology stack (Handshake, PeopleGrove, Salesforce, Big Interview, etc.), including administrative panels, customizations, updates, and data uploads. Serves as the primary point of contact between the department and software vendors, ensuring smooth communication and efficient resolution of technical issues.
  • Stays up-to-date with emerging trends, technologies, and industry standards in design, user experience, and artificial intelligence (AI) to continuously enhance the functionality of the technology stack. Provides training and support to staff members, students, and campus partners on the effective use of the Center’s career technology tools and platforms.
  • Monitors the Career Development Center’s website and technology resources for technical glitches or outdated information, ensuring all resources remain functional and current.

General Support 

  • Collaborates as an active team member to support office-wide events on campus, such as large career fairs, workshops, and employer receptions.
  • Assists team members with audio and visual setup for presentations, webinars, and events  to ensure a seamless technical experience.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and strategic planning to stay aligned with office goals and student success initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the evolving needs and operational goals of the Career Development Center.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Substitution: A high school diploma and two additional years of work experience may substitute for Bachelor’s degree, at the rate of two years of education is equivalent to one year of work experience
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (or similar software), spreadsheet applications, and data exports/imports.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of related work experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and website development frameworks (e.g., Cascade, WordPress, Drupal, Bootstrap).
  • Experience with graphic design tools and prototyping software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Sketch, Figma).
  • Experience with project management tools (Notion, Asana, Wrike, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace
  • Knowledge of Career Technologies (Handshake, PeopleGrove, Big Interview, RoadTrip Nation, etc.)

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
