The Assistant Director of Graduate,International, and Certificate Programs is responsible for the following: coordinate recruitment and marketing efforts for the Graduate,International, and Certificate Programs Office; manage new student enrollment and scholarships; ; oversee the development and regular update of LL.M., M.S. in Legal Studies, Study Abroad and other international initiative websites and marketing materials; and develop retention strategies to promote and assure a positive student experience. The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Dean and works in a collaborative relationship with the Associate Director, other student services offices, and the faculty. Position requires a valid CA driver’s license and US passport; some overnight and international travel is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate admissions, recruitment and marketing efforts for the Graduate and International Programs Office:
Oversee all office contacts with more than 1,000 prospective students and visitors to the five graduate (LL.M.) programs, the M.S. in Legal Studies, summer and semester study abroad programs, and the U.S. Law and Policy Program or similar programming. Work with the Assistant Dean and Associate Director to develop and execute a marketing and outreach strategy for these programs to prospective markets (e.g., attorneys, law schools, law firms, graduate schools, the legal market, etc.) nationally and internationally. Manage the office's distribution of information to prospective applicants regarding admission and financial aid. Maintain regular contact with prospective applicants to encourage their application to the School of Law, and with admitted applicants to encourage their matriculation to the School of Law. Review transcripts and admissions documents for U.S. and international applicants in conjunction with the Associate Director for admission to the program. Provide periodic status reports to the Assistant Dean of all inquiries and efforts to enroll admitted students. Represent the law school at recruitment events and opportunities; this entails some local, regional, national, and occasionally international travel. Work with Director and the Office of Alumni Affairs to create an outreach program to alumni focused on the area of recruitment and referral to USD. Perform other duties and tasks related to marketing and recruitment as needed.
Update the Graduate and International Programs website and publications:
Oversee the development of an expanded and comprehensive website to serve prospective and enrolled students. Work with the Assistant Dean, Associate Director and the Communications Office in the development of print and electronic marketing materials. Work with outside vendors in the areas of advertising and marketing. Develop and update program application forms and application processes for the LL.M. programs, M.S. in Legal Studies program, summer and semester study abroad programs and U.S. Law and Policy Program or similar programming. Work annually with the Law School Admissions Council to maintain electronic application service for LL.M. applicants.
Manage new student enrollment:
Provide regular reports to the Assistant Dean regarding projected enrollments and scholarship awards. Serve as the LLM primary admissions contact with the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC). Be familiar with and regularly use the LSAC’s Unite admissions platform to process applicants from the recruiting stage through matriculation. Manage all applicant records in Unite. Serve as the primary member of the admissions committee in Unite. Train department staff in the use of Unite. Manage student records in Banner, and other student records platforms and portals. Manage the administration of the Graduate Programs merit scholarship budget. Maintain a positive working relationship with School of Law Financial Aid Office and USD’s Student Financial Services to resolve billing issues for LL.M. and M.S. students. Coordinate regular contact with incoming students about university services (e.g., housing, e-mail, student accounts, etc.). Coordinate new student orientation, amongst other events and activities for incoming students. Perform other duties and tasks related to new students and the admission process as needed.
Advise prospective students and incoming students:
Advise students about the curriculum in their respective graduate law programs. Provide specific information about academic requirements for all programs, including required course, elective options and Concentrations (if any), amongst other information needed for enrollment.
Assist in developing and implementing new non-degree programs:
Collaborate with the Assistant Dean and Associate Director in creating and implementing new non-degree in-person and/or online workshops, seminars, and courses that serve as marketing feeders for our academic programs. Perform other duties and tasks related to assisting with non-degree programs as needed.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- CA driver’s license and current passport required for travel (some trips may be extended).
Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.
