Detailed Description: |
The Department of Physics and Biophysics at the University of San Diego, a primarily undergraduate institution committed to providing a liberal arts education, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to start in Fall 2026. Candidates should have research interests in quantum science that involves the use of computational and/or numerical methods.
The Department of Physics and Biophysics seeks applicants who can demonstrate that they will take a student-centered approach to teaching undergraduates across our curriculum from lower-division courses for non-majors to advanced upper-division courses. We encourage applications from those who have an interest in and can demonstrate prior success in developing engaging lower-division physics or astronomy courses for majors outside of the sciences. Qualified candidates will be able to make use of existing equipment for a lower division astronomy course and outreach events (telescopes and a planetarium). Qualified candidates will also describe clear plans to establish a productive, undergraduate-driven research program in an area related to atomic physics or fundamental quantum mechanics. Such plans must describe how undergraduate students will be provided with authentic research experience. Participation in department and university service is expected, and qualified candidates will have experience serving on university committees, participating in recruitment and outreach events, serving as an academic advisor, and other related activities. A demonstrated ability to perform public physics and astronomy demonstrations is highly valued.
Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.
