Detailed Description:

This recruitment is open to current University of San Diego tenured faculty only.

The Provost's Faculty Fellow in Research Development will work closely with the Provost's team focusing on designing strategies and implementing initiatives to support and advance the university's research mission. This position will play an important role in strengthening USD's research culture, increasing faculty and student research productivity at both graduate and undergraduate levels, enhancing research infrastructure, funding resources and institutional visibility. Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic research development: support the implementation of the university's research vision and strategic goals; identify and promote interdisciplinary, community-based and global research collaborations; assist in developing and promoting institutional research initiatives aligned with USD's mission.
  • Faculty engagement and support: organize and lead workshops, seminars, and grant development programs.
  • Research infrastructure and tools: contribute to the development and promotion of research development tools; help assess and improve research support services.
  • Recognition and visibility: collaborate with key stakeholders to highlight faculty research achievements through various communication channels; support initiatives that recognize and incentivize research excellence.
  • Assessment and feedback: gather and analyze USD research community feedback; recommend improvements to research support structures and policies.

The Provost's Faculty Fellow reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Vice Provost for Research and Administration.

The appointment will start on September 1, 2025. This position is renewable on an annual basis for up to three years. The Faculty Fellow will serve an estimated one month in the summer, with a teaching load of one 3-unit course within their respective discipline per Fall and Spring semester. The Faculty Fellow is expected to remain active in their ongoing faculty research and scholarship agenda.

Job Requirements:

  • USD tenured faculty member with a rank of associate or full professor
  • A combination of at least six years of teaching and research at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Demonstrated record of research excellence and external funding
  • Experience with interdisciplinary or collaborative research preferred
  • Successful administrative and professional development experience in a higher education institution
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across units to improve efficiency and effectiveness of university procedures, programs, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively lead and manage programs and/or a minimum of two years of academic leadership experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to research excellence and innovation
  • Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills
