Detailed Description:
The University of San Diego is seeking a strategic, innovative, and relationship-driven leader to serve as the Associate/Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Generation and Innovation. This position will serve as the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) for Athletics. As a key member of the Athletic Director’s executive leadership team, this position will be responsible for the strategic leadership, integration, and growth of all revenue-generating functions within the Athletics Department. This position will report directly to the Executive Director of Athletics.
 
This role is pivotal to advancing USD Athletics' mission by building innovative revenue models that directly support the holistic development of our student-athletes and the long-term success of our programs. This position is also intended to be forward-thinking and innovative to stay aligned with the changing industry landscape.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Revenue Strategy & Growth
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, long-term revenue generation strategy for USD Athletics.
  • Oversee and optimize all revenue-producing units: ticketing, sponsorships, marketing, licensing, and merchandising.
  • Identify and implement sustainable revenue models that balance immediate growth with long-term viability.
  • External Partnerships & Community Engagement—10%
  • Identity, cultivate, and manage strategic partnerships with corporate sponsors, local businesses, and key community stakeholders.
  • Partner with University Advancement and Alumni Relations to engage alumni and donors in revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Develop new sponsorship inventory and creative assets to maximize value for partners and USD Athletics.
Marketing & Brand Advancement
  • Lead integrated marketing campaigns to grow fan base, increase attendance, and enhance the visibility of USD Athletics.
  • Guide the strategy for promotional planning, digital marketing, and branding to drive both revenue and engagement.
  • Ensure consistent brand representation across all platforms and touchpoints; work closely with the team to ensure consistency and sound strategy for each sport and the department as a whole.
Ticket Sales and Inventory Optimization
  • Oversee all aspects of ticket operations including outbound sales campaigns, group sales, mini plans, single-game sales, premium seating and strategy for ticket sales optimization.
  • Manage dynamic pricing, packaging and promotions using data from the assigned ticket platform to maximize attendance and revenue.
  • Supervise full-time ticketing department staff to ensure seamless execution and service for both internal and external customers.
Operational Oversight & Leadership
  • Directly supervise professional staff across assigned external and revenue teams.
  • Set clear performance metrics and lead regular evaluation of revenue-driving initiatives.
  • Serve on the Athletic Director’s executive leadership team, helping to shape department-wide strategic priorities.
  • Serve as the chief liaison to the USD Athletics’ multi-media rights partners; assist on strategy and deal fulfillment and operationalization.
Licensing and Merchandise
  • Responsible for building the brand and developing a more visible presence for USD in the community via merchandise sales and licensing
  • Create new revenue streams; partnering with campus auxiliaries and local businesses to grow and broaden partnerships locally and from a digital and social presence.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Availability to work long hours, nights and weekends.
  • Willingness to travel to away contests, NCAA event and WCC meetings, when appropriate and necessary.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Heartsaver CPR /AED certification required. Must have this certificate within 6 weeks of employment.
  • California driver’s license required within 6 weeks of employment.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, sports administration, or a related field required.
  • Senior Associate Athletic Director level: Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in a collegiate athletics department, professional sports organization, or comparable environment.
  • Associate Athletic Director level: Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a collegiate athletics department, professional sports organization, or comparable environment.
  • Proven success in both growing and optimizing diverse revenue streams, including ticket sales, sponsorships, and marketing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, sports management, or related discipline.
  • Experience working directly with fundraising professionals, alumni groups, or corporate partnership development.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I operations and a strong understanding of the collegiate athletics marketplace.

Posting Salary:

$10,000-14,166.67 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
