Detailed Description:

This recruitment is open to current University of San Diego employees only. Only current USD employees are eligible to apply and be considered for this position.

This is a part-time, temporary, retirement benefit position with an anticipated end date of August 31, 2026. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.

College Corps Program Coordinators at the University of San Diego play a vital role in shaping meaningful service experiences that prepare fellows to grow as leaders, strengthen professional skills, and make a lasting impact in their communities. Each Coordinator directly supports a cohort of 40–45 fellows throughout their year of service—offering personalized guidance, creating spaces for connection and reflection, and helping fellows navigate challenges and celebrate accomplishments.

As part of a collaborative team of Coordinators, each role also contributes to shared efforts across cohorts, ensuring a cohesive and consistent experience for all fellows and partners.

Coordinators are instrumental in ensuring a successful and enriching experience for both fellows and community partners. They support fellows from onboarding through completion, coordinate engaging programming, provide leadership development for student leaders, and serve as the primary point of contact for a small group of local community organizations. Each Coordinator also coaches a small group of student leaders within their cohort, helping them build leadership skills and serve as peer support for their fellow cohort members.

This role also plays an important part in capturing and communicating the impact of the program. Coordinators help collect data, document stories, and highlight the outcomes that demonstrate how fellows are addressing community-identified needs in areas such as education, environmental stewardship, food security, and community health.

Through direct support, thoughtful planning, and a commitment to meaningful engagement, Program Coordinators help shape not only the success of individual fellows, but the broader story and legacy of the College Corps program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervision and Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support a cohort of approximately 40–45 College Corps Fellows, including scheduling, training, coaching, and supporting their work outcomes.
  • Coach and guide a team of 4 student leaders within each cohort, supporting their leadership development and preparing them to serve as peer mentors.
  • Perform administrative duties to support student success, including calendar management, documentation, and maintaining confidential records.
  • Assist fellows in following departmental and University guidelines, policies, and academic procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to student progress, participation, and case management.
  • Support program operations including reimbursements, purchases, and coordination of event logistics.

Community Partner Experience & Support:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a group of community partners assigned to the Coordinator’s cohort.
  • Facilitate the onboarding, training, and ongoing engagement of community partners to ensure clear expectations, mutual benefit, and strong alignment with the College Corps mission.
  • Conduct site visits and partner check-ins to support fellow placements and address questions or concerns.
  • Collaborate with partners and fellows to develop and monitor completion plans.
  • Participate in the review of community partner applications and assist in developing position descriptions for service placements.

Student Engagement, Experience, and Retention:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for assigned fellows, supporting academic, financial, and personal wellbeing throughout the program year.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled check-ins with fellows, monitor engagement, and provide guidance and referrals to appropriate campus resources.
  • Develop and implement cohort-building experiences, reflection practices, and community-building events.
  • Participate in the student application and selection process, including reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and supporting the fellow-community partner matching process.
  • Provide timely support in moments of fellow conflict, concern, or challenge by documenting and escalating issues as needed in collaboration with the Program Manager, and when appropriate, the Program Director.

Student Programming and Leadership Development:

  • Plan and implement workshops, trainings, and special events that contribute to professional development, life skills, and public service readiness throughout the academic year and through College Corps Summer Immersive Programming.
  • Support delivery of the College Corps Leadership/Changemaking course, including identifying guest speakers and assisting with session facilitation.
  • Collaborate with student leaders and the broader team to enhance the program’s community and leadership culture.

Data, Evaluation, and Strategic Planning:

  • Collect, track, and organize quantitative and qualitative data related to student experience, community partnerships, and program impact.
  • Support program reporting and storytelling efforts through the creation of summaries, visuals, and narratives that reflect the College Corps impact.
  • Assist with program evaluations and assessment processes, including gathering fellow and partner feedback.
  • Participate in strategic planning efforts, contributing to continuous improvement of the program’s policies, curriculum, and operations.

Marketing, Communications, and Outreach:

  • Collaborate with the College Corps team to support marketing, storytelling, and outreach efforts that elevate program visibility and recruit new fellows.
  • Maintain web content, media updates, and program communications in alignment with branding and engagement goals.
  • Represent the College Corps program at internal and external events, including recruitment fairs and community presentations.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with campus offices and departments (e.g., Financial Aid, Counseling, Student Accounts, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs) to enhance support systems for fellows.

Special Conditions of Employment:

Background check:  Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Experience in student advising, engagement, or support services.
  • Experience working with college students.
  • Experience with program coordination, event planning, or community engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, public administration, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of professional experience in a student-facing or program coordination role.
  • Experience working in service-learning, nonprofit, or community-based program settings.
  • Experience with College Corps, AmeriCorps, or grant-funded programs.
  • Experience mentoring students and supporting cross-functional teams.

Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of student advising, leadership development, and volunteer coordination.
  • Knowledge of effective communication, event planning, and community partnership practices.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and student support resources.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, including documentation and confidentiality standards.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other relevant software applications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and community partners.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders across campus and the community.
Posting Salary:

$33.00 - $34.13 per hour; Retirement Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
