Detailed Description: |
This is a full-time temporary, benefit-based 10-month position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2025. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.
The Director partners closely with the Faculty Director and Assistant Director to manage and promote the future growth of The Center for Restorative Justice in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES). At the Center for RJ, the Director provides leadership, supervision, implementation, and helps ensure the sustainability of the Center’s various programs. The Director teaches courses in the Professional Certificate, manages daily program operations, develops program policy and procedures, conducts program assessments and evaluation, manages fiscal administration, and leads in strategic planning.
The Center for RJ has an operating budget of approximately $400,000 dollars a year and 40-50 trainers, consultants, and volunteers working nationally on a variety of projects. The director supervises the assistant director, executive assistant, and graduate students. The position requires close interaction with on- and off-campus constituents, including the advisory council, practice group leader, and initiative leaders, donors, clients, faculty, and students. Additional characteristics and requirements include managing deadlines and competing priorities, using independent judgment to respond to inquiries and concerns as appropriate, handling sensitive issues, and ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of all issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy and Leadership
- Serve as a member of the Center’s leadership team.
- Represent the Center in a professional manner in all activities.
- Lead the Center team restoratively through community building and conflict management.
- Work closely with the leadership team to chart the future growth and strategic response to an ever-changing demand for the Center’s services.
- Work in conjunction with the leadership team to develop strategic plans, including key performance indicators, financial projections, and operations plans to advance the future growth and sustainability of the Center.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to improve internal systems with an eye toward future needs, opportunities, and budget realities.
- Co-design new program offerings through the Center.
Program Development and Oversight
- National Restorative Coaching Program (NRCP)
- Coordinate with NCORJ team for grant management and deliverables
- Supervise staff coordinator of program
- Training program
- Oversee curriculum development for higher education and K-12 trainings
- Coordinate with the practice group leader for contracts and payments
- Develop and implement marketing strategies
- Coordinate Certificate in RJ Facilitation and Leadership (60%)
- Supervise graduate assistant to support with program
- Teach four certificate courses annually
- Develop new content
- Make updates and improvements
- Work with PCE to ensure smooth administration
- Develop and implement marketing strategies

Budget Oversight and Fundraising
- In close partnership with the Assistant Director, construct and manage the Center’s annual forecast, updating throughout the fiscal year to reflect new realities around institute projects, fundraising, personnel and financial changes.
- Approve all financial expenditures ensuring accurate adherence to USD policies, including expense reimbursements, OneCard expenditures, stipend payments and payroll allocations.
- Work with the Assistant Director to provide ongoing financial-related briefings to the Dean’s office (Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration, Dean, and Development Office) and respond to inquiries as needed.
- Assist with fundraising efforts such as grant identification and donor development.
- Contribute to the acquisition and management of Center-related grants and deliverables.

Job Requirements: |
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years of restorative facilitation and project management experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD degree preferred.
- Skills related to above tasks
- Detail-oriented and excited about the work of the Center for RJ.
- Strong background in restorative justice and university administration.
- Familiarity with various software such as Workday, Google Suite, Zoom, Canva, Hubspot, Salesforce, etc.
- Track record delivering superior results, and assuming leadership roles.
- Experience taking projects and products from initial idea through to completion.
- Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities.
- Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people.
- Operates with excellence in mind in all matters, with the confidence to defend/debate ideas while maintaining diplomatic atmosphere.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be transparent, direct, and diplomatic. Self-starter, self-disciplined.
