Detailed Description:

The Director of Compliance will coordinate the development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive NCAA Division I athletics compliance program in addition to assisting with academics, eligibility and student services. This position ensures institutional control and adherence to all applicable NCAA, conference, federal, and institutional regulations. The Director of Compliance serves as a key advisor to coaches, administrators, student-athletes, and university stakeholders regarding rules education, monitoring, and risk mitigation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Compliance Administration and Coordination 

  • Monitors compliance with NCAA legislation, including all policies, procedures, and forms involved in managing the Athletic Department.
  • Monitors all recruiting logs for NCAA compliance.
  • Manages playing and practice season declarations.
  • Monitors practice hours.
  • Conduct internal investigations of potential violations, prepare and submit violation self-reports to NCAA and conference office.
  • Research rules interpretations, submits official interpretation requests to the NCAA and provides final rulings to coaches in a timely manner.
  • Develop and provide ongoing rules education programming for all athletic department personnel, coaching staff, student athletes, campus partners, and representatives of athletics interests.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains up-to-date rules education materials for online disbursement (e.g., social media, email, athletics website).
  • Acts as liaison for Teamworks software.
  • Utilizes NCAA and Teamworks compliance and recruiting software to track overall department-wide compliance.
  • Monitors official and unofficial campus recruiting visits to ensure compliance with NCAA legislation.
  • Monitors institutional camps and clinics and coaches’ participation in non-institutional camps and clinics to ensure compliance with NCAA legislation.
  • Assists with various reports, including but not limited to, Academic Progress Rate, Sports Sponsorship and Demographics, Cleary Act, EADA.
  • Assists as necessary with the monitoring and implementation of NCAA Bylaws 15 & 22, including athletics aid financial aid agreements and renewals and creation of revenue share agreements.
  • Coordinates and submits hardship waivers to the conference office.
  • Assist with the submission of NCAA waivers.Assist with the development and updating of compliance office policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Academics, Eligibility, and Student Services 

  • Primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of Bylaw 17.2, including managing Rosters within the Teamworks and CAPS platforms. Complete the official submission of rosters using CAPS platform.
  • Evaluates and certifies initial eligibility of student athletes.
  • Monitors the continuing eligibility of student athletes.
  • Facilities and completes comprehensive evaluations of prospective transfer student-athletes, coordinating with the Associate Athletic Director for Academics and the Transfer Process Specialist.
  • Compiles and completes Certification Roster and disseminates the Certification Roster to institution’s sport teams.
  • Prepares official NCAA Squad Lists.
  • Participates in the recruiting process by meeting with prospective student athletes as requested by coaches.
  • Provides NCAA core course evaluations.
  • Assists in developing and updating the student athlete handbook.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Athletic Director of Academics to ensure a comprehensive understanding and ability to administer all aspects of one another’s programs and assist one another when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and train compliance office interns and student workers.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the professional and position relevant skill and knowledge development of compliance office interns and student workers.
  • Serve on departmental or institutional committees as assigned.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Heartsaver CPR /AED / First Aid certification required within 6 weeks of employment.
  • California driver’s license required within 6 weeks of employment.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required by the teams’ schedules.
  • Ability to travel with teams when required.

Background check:  Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Two years of related experience required. 
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a collegiate athletic department required.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Juris Doctor and state bar license preferred.
  • Two years of experience working in a collegiate athletic department preferred.

  • Personal initiative, dependability, self-discipline, self-confidence, and the ability to overcome obstacles and focus energy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of constituencies, including experience with supervisory skills.
  • Experience in both short- and long-range planning and the ability to focus on administrative details.
  • Patience and interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively with college student athletes.
Posting Salary:

$6,250-6,416.67 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
