Detailed Description:

The Custodian 2 will open and close the building and ensure security of facility. Perform building rounds (interior and exterior) and inspections. Provides routine and non-routine support associated with the daily cleaning in the non-Auxiliary Services areas in the Hahn University Center, Student Life Pavilion, and Salomon Lecture Hall. Typical routine duties include, but are not limited to: dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning restrooms, removing trash, polishing furniture, operation of basic mechanical cleaning equipment and filling out simple forms. Support of event operations team with the set-up, break down, and of event furniture and be responsive to facility event schedule and anticipating non-routine needs to address event preparation and clean up. Performs various duties requiring moderate physical strength and acts as safety and evacuation managers.

Periodically, this position may be asked to lead or contribute to either ad hoc or ongoing division/campus projects outside the scope of their day-to-day activities. In addition. This position contributes to or leads additional division/campus projects outside of typical duties to help further accomplish student or organizational goals. Additional assignments may be seasonal, ad hoc or ongoing, depending on the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily lock/unlock and cleaning of common areas of Hahn University Center and Student Life Pavilion (UCSLP), Salomon Lecture Hall.  Daily duties include cleaning bathrooms, hallways, lounge spaces, meeting rooms and offices. Ensure there is never more than two-days of dust, dirt, stains, and streaks. 
  • Assist building management with priority projects which may include floor refinishing, moving furniture, upholstery cleaning, set-up and break down of events.
  • Assist the UCSLP management team with service to guests. Duties may include room set-ups, public relations, refuse removal and other duties as assigned. 
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms/shower rooms and fixtures (toilet, urinals, etc)
  • Keep restroom dispensers supplied with towels, soap, sanitary napkins, etc.
  • Vacuum carpets, rugs, mats.
  • Dust mop, sweep and wet mop floors.
  • Police public areas.
  • Empty trash receptacles and replace liners.
  • Clean elevators and stairwells.
  • Straighten/arrange furniture.
  • Clean drinking fountains.
  • Spot clean carpets, rugs, walk-off mats.
  • Empty recycling containers.
  • Spot mop floors.
  • Spot clean windows, walls, doors, and other above floor surfaces.
  • Dust and/or clean furniture, windowsills, and other above floor surfaces.
  • Spray buff floors.
  • Polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Strip and refinish floors.
  • Wash windows and blinds.
  • Shampoo carpets, rugs and walk-off mats.
  • Machine scrub floors.
  • Inventory supplies and order through Lead Custodian.
  • Assist other custodians, when necessary, in completing assigned tasks and/projects.
  • Perform related work as required and instructed.
  • Communication with UC/SLP tenants to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Accommodate tenant preferences and special requests that support that offices core responsibilities.
  • Perform equipment maintenance and minor repairs.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have a minimum of one year o related job experience and demonstrated proficiency in modern cleaning methods and techniques.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
  • Must be able to follow simple oral and written instructions in English.
  • Must be able to complete simple forms and conduct simple inventories of supplies.
  • Must have the ability to operate all mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to maintain good working relations with students, faculty, and staff, and adhere to university policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work alone or without close supervision.
  • Understands the importance of customer service and has the ability to follow-up as well as communicate to Facilities Management and campus clients.

Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Understanding of and knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and MSDS rules and regulations.
  • Understanding of custodial processes and procedures.
  • Be responsive and flexible to changing work schedule in order to support event operations including set-up and break down tasks.
  • May be asked to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on department needs.
Posting Salary:

$21.31 - $21.73 per hour; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
