Detailed Description:

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Diego invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2021. The Visiting Assistant Professor will teach eight lower division courses over the year (4-4 teaching load).

Job Requirements:

Qualified candidates must hold a PhD or its equivalent in Theology or Religious Studies. Applicants must have teaching experience and be able to teach in-person, remote, and hybrid introductory courses in religious studies. Teaching modality will be dependent on California guidelines and University policies.

Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses for undergraduate students, and may include courses that fulfill the Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice requirement in our core curriculum. The candidate would be expected to teach lower division courses (such Religion and Animals, Chicanx Religious Identities and/or Exploring Religious Meaning) in alignment with core learning outcomes in theological and religious inquiry. Candidates with a demonstrated ability to incorporate diverse perspectives into teaching and scholarship are preferred. Candidates will also have an opportunity to give a lecture to the university in the Spring semester. The Theology and Religious Studies department will also provide a modest book/conference stipend.
