Department Description:

The Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, established at the University of San Diego in 2007, is the first standalone school of its kind in the United States. The Kroc School’s mission is to equip and empower innovative changemakers to shape more peaceful and just societies. It is home to three graduate programs, the MA in Peace and Justice, the MA in Social Innovation, and MS in Conflict Management & Resolution, as well as a dual MA/Juris Doctor degree with the University of San Diego’s School of Law.

Detailed Description:

Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of part-time faculty to support the advancement of the Kroc School’s mission. Part-time faculty have responsibilities for course instruction, student evaluation, student advising, student professional development, and other service as assigned.

Subject Matter Expertise
The Kroc School is seeking instructors with a range of subject matter expertise, in areas such as:

  1. Social Innovation
  2. Social Entrepreneurship
  3. Race, Inequality, and Social Justice in the United States
  4. Climate Justice
  5. Conflict Resolution
  6. Organizational Leadership
  7. Trauma-informed Pedagogies
  8. Applied Ethics
  9. Communications for Social Change
  10. Peacebuilding
  11. Humanitarian Affairs

Priority Assignments for Practicum Courses
The Kroc School has a particular need for faculty who can teach practice-based courses in which they supervise students in real-world projects.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Masters, J.D. or Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology, Business, Political Science, African-American Studies, Public Policy, Environmental Policy, Humanitarian Affairs, or a related discipline.
  2. Previous instructional experience at the undergraduate or graduate level required
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and foster community within a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with remote, online, or hybrid instruction 
  2. Strong practice experience and professional networks relevant to our degree programs

Background check:  Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Posting Salary:

Consistent with the Kroc School of Peace Studies' part-time faculty compensation rates.
