Detailed Description: |
The Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Support provides critical support to student-athletes, ensuring their academic success at the University of San Diego. The position is responsible for the development and implementation of academic support programming that will assist the 400+ student-athletes at the University of San Diego in reaching their highest potential as a student along with graduating from one of America’s finest academic institutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic Support
- Develop learning support programs aimed at the development of executive functioning skills for assigned student-athletes. Assess program effectiveness and lead support staff to include academic tutors and learning assistants.
- Provide thorough training and support for academic tutors and learning assistants, including instruction on rules and regulations related to academic integrity; methods for supporting students in their development as learners; guidance on creating academic action plans; and strategies for supporting students with low academic motivation.
- Oversee coordination of tutorial and learning support program to include hiring, scheduling, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
- Serve as a learning specialist for a small number of academically at-risk student-athletes.
Academic Counseling
- Serve as an academic counselor for assigned team(s). Provide academic advising and guidance to student-athletes on course selection, degree planning, and career goals.
- Monitor student-athletes' academic progress and eligibility, ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional rules.
- Monitor study hall and tutorial attendance of assigned students.
- Provide regular academic reports along with communicating academic concerns to coaches, senior athletic staff, and other stakeholders.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure student-athletes meet NCAA and institutional eligibility requirements for participation in sports.
- Assist with the completion of NCAA eligibility forms and other required paperwork.
Other Duties
- Assist with the recruitment of student-athletes, providing information about academic support services.
- Participate in athletic department initiatives and committees related to student-athlete welfare.
- May collaborate in the development of academic policies and procedures.
- Serve as a liaison between the athletic department, faculty, and academic advisors.
- Collaborate with admissions, the registrar, and other university departments to support student-athlete success.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Night and weekend work may be required.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

Job Requirements: |
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
- 4+ years’ experience working with student-athletes as a learning specialist, academic administrator, advisor, or tutor coordinator in an athletic academic support unit required.
- Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Supervisory experience is highly preferred.

- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and various stakeholders.
- Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet software programs
- Ability to learn and become proficient in navigating relevant software and technologies (e.g., Banner, Degree Works, Salesforce, SAP Concur, Workday, etc.)
- Ability to counsel students in decision-making processes related to goal setting.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with scholar-athletes and make appropriate referrals to campus resources and services
- Must be able to work in time sensitive, fast-paced and demanding environment
- Ability to manage a high volume of workload
- Experience in both short and long-range planning with an attention to detail
- Excellent presentation, oral communication and writing skills
- Ability to coordinate activities and events either individually, as part of a team or in collaboration with other departments
- Ability to think critically to methodically, strategically, and collaboratively make decisions, solve problems, and foster innovation

$5833.33 - 6666.66 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
